Mike Smith Studio

The brief: Mike Smith Studio was asked to fabricate a mild steel sculpture. The object was CGI modelled from a paper maquette provided by Keith Tyson’s studio, and then fabricated in 8.0 mm mild steel plate. The sculpture is divided into two parts: the top is in the form of a 24 sided object, welded and ground on all edges to give the impression of solidity. The base has the same overall dimensions as a block required to produce the 24 sided object. The twenty coordinate points of the 24 sided object are marked on the surface of the base. The surface is chemically rusted and waxed. Dimensions 1730 x 560 x 600 mm
