This piece was for the Oxford University Department of Biochemistry’s new building, by the artist Annie Cattrell.

We made a set of armatures, all perfectly weighted so they would hang completely flat once the birds were attached. We then precisely attached each bird on the correct length of filament, as agreed with the artist.  It was important to get the ‘flow’ of the piece right, whilst also ensuring that none of the birds could be touched from any landing.

Then we worked over a weekend, when the department was quietest, to install the entire piece.

It was made more difficult by the spread of the work over a full 6 storeys in height, but the entire job went smoothly and was completed within the two days.
