Mike Smith Studio were approached by garden designer Tom Stuart Smith and Architect Jamie Fobert to create this brass pavilion to go into a show garden at Chelsea Flower Show.
We built an internal steel structure, using laser-cut ribs to form the basic shape, and had this galvanised. We then laminated Plywood and lightweight honeycomb aluminium onto brass sheets and devised a system of hanging the sheets from the structure.
These brass sheets were then patinated to give the final ‘bronzed’ finish.
We made the entire pavilion in our West London workshop, then dismantled it and re-built it at the flower show.
The garden won a Gold Medal.
The pavilion was subsequently sold, and we then moved it into a private garden.
