Mike Smith Studio

The brief: The studio was contracted to install ‘Grotto’ by Thomas Demand at the Serpentine Gallery as part of his exhibition. ‘Grotto’ is a photograph laminated between two sheets of glass, the dimensions are 550 cm x 250 cm x 2 cm and weighs 640 kilos. The main issue with the installation was the size and weight of the photograph, and that we only had 15 cm of clearance above the photograph. The photographs show how tight it was.
